Unable to delete Master Pages or Page Layouts?

November 22, 2007 10:50 by aidan

I have just been tidying up my masterpage library in a WCM sitecollection and came across an issue when trying to delete some master pages.

When trying to delete I got the following error:

I know that this is not the case - no other pages use this master page!

Fortunatley there is a workaround for this. Simply create another folder in the masterpage folder and then drag the master page you want to delete into it. Then delete the folder and your master page is gone.

Thanks to Katrien De Graeve for this solution.

Thanks. that was awesome. This "trick" also worked for trying to delete a custom master page when it says it cant delete it because its set as the custom master page.

Just what I needed. Something simple.

Thanks. This worked great. I'll note that I tried what Laxmikant mentions above, i.e., renaming the master page itself, but that did not work for me.
Using MOSS 2007.
